This is a fight preview for UFC 129: Cyborg vs Holm. Read on for our match prediction.
The final UFC match-up of 2017 pitts Cris Cyborg against Holly Holm in the women’s featherweight division. It’s not the stereotypical showdown that Dana White may have hoped to promote at first, but having been let down by the antics of Conor McGregor and several other high profile names, he moved quickly to upgrade this encounter as the main event. For what it’s worth, Cyborg and Holm could just as easily be fireworks or fizzle out on New Year’s Eve – fingers crossed for the former outcome.
Cyborg and Holm are two of the UFC’s most established fighters in the women’s featherweight division for good reason. Both can recount colourful careers and rose through the ranks past the likes of Ronda Rousey to stand alone as household names. This match-up offers an exciting clash of styles, with Cyborg’s tendency for landing hard combinations in phone-booth range versus the counter-punching Holm who punishes offensive advances and slips away with guile.
Cris Cyborg Form and Fight Record
Cris Cyborg comes into the UFC 219 featherweight match with an almost flawless record with 10 wins and only one loss, with one no contest. All four wins were a result of TKO/KO – impressive finishing from the Brazilian warrior. Going on this form, backing her to take out challenger Holly Holm before the end of five rounds seems logical. The hardcore UFC fan base and bookmakers would do well to argue against Cyborg finishing on top.

Holly Holm Form and Fight Record
The Preacher’s Daughter is currently ranked the number two bantamweight and comes into this UFC 219 fight with 11 wins to her name. Although having earned fight of the night and performance of the night accolades from UFC bosses, Holm also carries three losses which underlies a minor vulnerability to dominant fighters in the Octagon (Germaine de Randamie and Valentina Shevchenko). Despite the failure to overcome three of five recent opponents, she still has the bragging rights over Ronda Rousey, and history tells us that UFC upsets can be repeated.

Our Tips and Prediction
While Holm is clearly equipped with the skillset to dismantle any top fighter on her day, there’s a tough challenge awaiting her in the UFC 219 main event, one which may be too much to handle. Cyborg, now 32, cuts a mean and aggressive frame and is favourite with most bookmakers for the win. The Brazilian is the bigger of the two fighters and as well as brute force, size could be the decisive factor as to why she overpowers Holm this time around. The Preacher’s Daughter needs to turn it on with high kicks and counter punching to force her opponent into a weakened state.
Yo Tipster! is backing Cyborg to win via TKO/KO. For a high risk bet, take Holm on points.
