Jon Jones has hearing set for doping violation
The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) have confirmed that Jon Jones will attend a hearing set for February 27 regarding his in-competition failure for anabolic steroid Turinabol one day prior to his UFC 214 victory over Daniel Cormier.
Jones had the result changed from a win to a No Contest as a result of the drug test, and has not fought since. Jones is set to learn his fate at the end of the month, and fans are eager to see if the mercurial UFC legend can make a return to the promotion.
Cormier hits out at Gustafsson
It seems as though “DC” would like to see Rockhold staying put in the middleweight division. Light heavyweight rival Alexander Gustafsson staked his claim for a fight to welcome Rockhold to the division, but it seems the champion, Daniel Cormier, is not as fussed on the idea.
“Nice timing Alexander(kick him while he’s down huh),” Cormier wrote to Twitter.” I got a better idea tho he doesn’t fight you next. He fights Robert Whitaker, I mean sometimes that happens right. You lose your way into a title shot!” #thegustafsonway
Joe Rogan talks Mayweather vs. McGregor
Rogan recently opened up on the possibility of a fight between the two in the UFC. “Whatever the f—k Vegas puts on [Mayweather vs. McGregor], that’s cute,” Rogan said. “I don’t care if it’s 10-1, 100-1, I bet it’s going to be like 900-1. It’s gonna be something ridiculous. Buster Douglas was only like 42-1 [against Mike Tyson]. This is gonna be insane… if they’re smart.
“Because Conor’s going to kick his legs out –- he’s not even going to have a chance to come close enough. Conor’s going to kick his f—king legs out; he doesn’t have any chance. Then if Conor decides to shoot in and clinch, he’s going to clinch and he’s going to ragdoll him.”
Poirier expecting McGregor to be stripped
Former opponent Dustin Poirier believes that Conor McGregor’s days as lightweight champion are coming to an end. Poirier, who lost his bout against “The Notorious” at featherweight a few years ago, would be surprised if his prediction does not come through; “I think they’re stripping Conor here, and they’re going to fight for the real belt,” Poirier told MMA Fighting.
“This sport is a crazy thing, and what happens, it’s unpredictable. But I think the winner of Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib is going to be the real, undisputed UFC lightweight champion.”
Will Brooks released from UFC
Will Brooks is heading for the PFL following hi cut from the UFC. Brooks, a former Bellator lightweight champ, told media on Wednesday that he was no longer fighting under the promotion:
“I’m extremely excited and fired up to be part of the @profighteague and their rebirth,” Brooks wrote on Instagram. “The timing is perfect because I’m in my own rebirth process as well. As always I’m going to represent this organization as professionally as I possibly can. I look forward to being a pivotal part of the PFL’s growth in this sport.”
