Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson:
Edgar to win outright
It’s make or break for both fighters in this co-main event at UFC Fight Night. Only five weeks ago Frankie Edgar was sprawled out on the canvas at the expense of a fine striking performance from Brian Ortega. Our worry is that with such a short time for recovery, the Jersey boy may not be at full fitness to duel with another heavy hitter in Swanson. If his fitness levels serve him well and he has a great opening round then this fight is his for the taking. Swanson, for all his glory, is not the fighter he used to be. We expect him to push Frankie to the final bell but not do enough to tip the scorecards in his favour.
Aljamain Sterling vs. Brett Johns:
Johns to win outright
The pride of Wales is bouncing off an emphatic calf slice win and is up against the veteran Sterling in an undercard Fight Night encounter. Johns is known for his wildcard wrestling and grappling game, albeit an unusual forte for a British fighter in the UFC, which we see working well for him this weekend. Sterling may know every trick in the book, however, his skilled are outmatched on this occasion. We’re tipping the “Welsh Pikey” to continue his run of wins with another show-stopping finish.
Edson Barboza vs. Kevin Lee:
Lee to win outright
The Motown Phenom looks the part, talks the talk, and this performance will determine whether he walks the walk. Are thoughts are that he will make a clear statement this weekend that he is ready for the big-time fights. As Lee suggests, he is the future of the lightweight division in the UFC. If Barboza has shaken off the mental and physical effects of being rag-dolled by Khabib then he’s also in with a chance of taking the win. His best hope is executing a solid kicking game and wearing down Lee for an easy stoppage. Because these two athletes are so evenly matched, we’re expecting this fight to go the full distance.
