Joseph Parker’s promoter David Higgins thinks that Anthony Joshua is making a mistake in focusing his attention on his unification fight against Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder rather than his more immediate challenge against Parker.
The two heavyweights, who face each other fo the first time in their careers, are sets to clash at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales later this month.
During his career, Joshua has made most of his fights look easy and the only challenge which he faced was last year when we went up against 41-year- old Wladimir Klitschko.
Due to the success which Joshua has tasted during his career, he has begun to underestimate the talent of many of his opponents, Parker included.
Higgins believes that Joshua is making a mistake in overlooking Parker.
“All this talk about Deontay Wilder, I think Anthony Joshua looks past Joseph Parker at his peril,” Higgins said to skysports.com. “Anthony Joshua’s making a grave mistake, if he’s looking past Parker.
“It’s one thing to quietly analyze future possibilities, but if they are going any further and are in the early stage of negotiations, it’s far too early for any of that.”
Parker meanwhile is nearing the end of his training camp in Las Vegas and the 26-year- old is set to arrive in Cardiff next week to complete preparations for his world title fight.
“He is firing on all cylinders. This camp is the best he’s had”; said Higgins. “I talk to Kevin and Joe most days and there is a calm, confident air.”
“Everything is on song, the combinations are being put together. He’s quick, he’s sparring lots of rounds, and everyone is happy. We’re on the home straight and everything is on song.”
