Fight week diary: Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker

Monday 26th March 2018 – Malik Scott backs Parker’s chances after surgery

Joseph Parker’s sparring partner Malik Scott has said that the boxer is far stronger after undergoing surgery.

Parker’s team have confirmed that he underwent surgery on both of his elbows ahead of his heavyweight unification bout against Britain’s Anthony Joshua this Saturday.

Scott assisted Parker ahead of his win against Hughie Fury last September and was once again brought into the New Zealander’s camp to assist him with preparations ahead of the bout against
Joshua.

The match between Parker and Joshua promises to be a blockbuster event.

It remains to be seen whether Parker really is stronger or if his camp are just trying to play mind games in order to mentally affect Joshua leading up to the match.

There are rumours which have suggested that Joshua will enter this fight lighter than he was during his previous two matches. If that is the case, we could see a different and faster AJ.

Both men are undefeated professionally and Joshua will be aware that he will need to win this fight in order for his much anticipated possible unification bout against Deontay Wilder to happen.

So far during his career, AJ has made most of his fights look easy. He did however face a tough test against Wladimir Klitschko last year before the Ukrainian’s age caught up with him.

“When he was getting ready for Fury, there was times in sparring where we were having to stop,” Scott told Sky Sports.

“I don’t think that the elbow, the shoulder, none of that is an issue right now. The only thing that’s an
issue, the most important thing, is there are two young lions, two great champions, and they want to rock. I cannot wait to see it.

“A totally different power now. I will say the last time it was like 70 per cent to me. Right now it’s 120.”
