Branch vs. Jared Cannonier Betting Markets

If you’re wondering how to bet on this UFC 230 match-up, be mindful that David Branch is the bookmakers’ favourite, cited at 1/4 to win outright whilst Cannonier comes in at 3/1. Check out our selection of betting markets for how this bout can potentially finish.

David Branch to win outright

After a stellar, undefeated 10-fight run in the World Series of Fighting (WSOF), Branch has had some mixed success in his second UFC run. He has lost just one bout in his last 13 fights, with his well- rounded, ever-improving game having taken him from an early career journeyman to a top-tier fighter.

Branch is no stranger to fighting bigger fighters and succeeding, having won and defending the WSOF Light Heavyweight title before returning to the UFC. However, with the betting lines on a Branch victory so low, there is little incentive for punters to put a bet on a Branch win.

Jared Cannonier to win outright

A former Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight, Jared Cannonier will hope to have a strength advantage in his new foray in the 185 pound division. He has a reputation as a slugger, who has five wins (out of 10) via TKO/KO.

Although Cannonier is capable of knocking out almost any fighter that stands in front of him, he has faltered against top competition in the past, as seen in his losses to Glover Teixiera and most recently to Dominick Reyes. We put a fighter like Branch in the same league as those two fighters, which is why we just can’t recommend a bet on a Cannonier victory.

Branch to win by TKO/KO

While his first UFC run back in 2010-2011 did not go extremely well, Branch’s MMA career since then has been amazing. He rebounded from a loss to Luke Rockhold – his first loss in five and a half years – with an emphatic first round win against Thiago Santos, and is looking to make it two in a row at UFC 230.

Branch’s quickness, technique and power have made him a respected fighter on the feet, but he also has seven submission victories, which make him just as dangerous on the ground. While a Branch victory is not a sure thing, there is a reason Branch is the bookie’s favourite in this matchup.

Fight to go the distance

As we’ve stated, both fighters like to throw down with bad intentions, which is partly why just 11 of their 32 combined wins have gone to a decision. Despite that, there is a chance that both Branch and Cannonier could be tentative on the feet for this very reason – the fear that one could land a huge bomb on the other.

The betting agencies seem to be thinking this too, with the odds on the fight going the distance being rather low, but still worth putting a small bet on.

Fight Prediction – Branch Win Outright

Both guys are hard hitters and will likely slug it out on the feet. However, even at 37 years old, Branch is still the better fighter and we believe he will get a good shot on Cannonier and come through with the win.

For a high risk bet, we’re going with Branch to steal the victory with a knockout or technical KO. The safer alternative is to back the favourite to win outright as part of an accumulator with several other bouts on the night.
