Anthony Yarde is back on our screens this weekend to face interesting prospect Nikola Sjekloca at the Copper Box and we’re expecting another explosive performance from the home-grown superstar, otherwise known as the Beast. Yarde is looking to fast-track his way to the top contender spots for the light-heavyweight title by repeating his previous wins of quick knock-outs, whilst the wiley Serbian Sjekloca will aim to uphold his reputation as a fighter that doesn’t go down easy, and put the Brit through his paces.
Our boxing tips and predictions on this one are with Yarde, not only based on past performances but because of the advantage of home turf and the freshness of youth.
A quick backstory for Sjekloca: the Serbian has been in the mix with several high profile fighters, including Sakio Bika, Callum Smith, Arthur Abraham and Tyron Zeuge. Neither of those specialists could put him away. In Yarde, he is facing a man who makes that his challenge his forte. So staying in the fight will require him to draw on his vast experience and ring craft, which is more a hope for damage limitation that anything else. A knock-out or stoppage from Sjekloca, albeit unlikely, would certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons.
The ever-present Anthony Yarde has had a productive and successful season in 2017. Now backed by the majestic Frank Warren, his career path to greatness has been compounded by the guidance of one of the smartest brains in modern boxing. This match-up against Sjekloca should be just another stepping stoe towards the big money fights that Yarde is itching to be a part of. But as a young man with relatively little experience in going the full distance, patience is key. This weekend could throw up a new type of obstacle for him to apply his skills against.
The bookies are in agreement that Yrde has the making to come away victoirous this weekend. Because of this, odds on Yarde taking the win are predictably low. Tipping him to KO his opponent early on is one of few ways to get a reasonable return on your stake. Our boxing prediction for this fight is that Yarde emerges unscathed and finishes his counterpart by KO or TKO. It’s a matter of when, not if, the Serbian calls it a day – so back the underdog at your peril.
