Boxing Prediction: Spence Jr vs. Peterson

This is a fight preview for Errol Spence Jr vs. Lamont Peterson. Read on for our tips and match prediction.

The Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, New York hosts a top of the bill boxing match to kick off 2018 with champion welterweight Errol Spence Jr going up against ageing Lamont Peterson. Also known as “The Truth”, Spence Jr. will be putting his IBF 147-pound title on the line for the first time when he faces former two-division champion Peterson. The southpaw from Long Island new York is widely tipped to become a star in 2018, but first he has to tackle the stern obstacle that is Peterson who is no stranger to main card events against elite boxers on the international stage.

Spence Jr has the division in his hands right now, many critics and fans asking if he is undoubtedly one of the sharpest welterweights to step foot in the ring in modern times. Some of his best form could be seen against challenger Kell Brook in his recent away trip to Sheffield, England. He dismantled his opponent inside of 12 rounds. Despite a nine-month layoff and squaring off against a much older fighter this time round, Spence is expected to continue his winning streak in fine fashion.

But will it be a walk in the park like many are pointing to? Peterson is a force to be reckoned with even on a bad day. He has been knocked out only one in his pro career and is capable of going the distance with younger and hungrier fighters. At 33, he has plenty of time on his side to showcase his endurance and determination to mix up it with close friend Spence Jr.  The two men have stated that this fight in late Jan is strictly business and that they will be sharing smiles at the final bell, regardless of the outcome.

Errol Spence Jr vs. Lamont Peterson Prediction

If one thing is for sure, it’s that Lamont Peterson is not ready to roll over for fan favourite Spence Jr. He is still a supreme athlete who moves well in the ring and has powerful punches to fall back on. On the other hand, he is facing an in-form champion who is competent in putting fighters away with devastating manoeuvres. This could all be too much for the veteran American Peterson.

Spence Jr is like a rabid dog in the ring with speed, accuracy, power and boxing IQ in his locker. this combination has seen him override even the finest challengers in the welterweight division. And he is still young – age counts for a lot in a high intensity bout. If “The Truth” has it all his own way, then there could be a premature stoppage through sheer dominance and a difference in class. Expect another show of brilliance from the Long Islander.

Our tip for this pro boxing match-up is for Errol Spence Jr to win via TKO/KO within 12 rounds.
