Boxing News Round-Up 9.2.18: Joshua & Eubank Jr Predict KO’s

Joshua sends warning to Parker

Anthony Joshua has said that he hopes that Joseph Parker is fit and will not “lay down” during their upcoming fight.

The two giants are set to face off in Cardiff on March 31 and both are currently going through their intense training programmes in preparation.

Joshua who is currently WBA and IBF champion will be looking to claim the WBO title from Parker. Joshua has said that he hopes that Parker will not disappoint fans by coming to the ring without doing adequate preparations.

He told Sky Sports: “I hope he’s training well, I hope he’s fit. People will wait ten, twelve weeks for us to come together and no one wants to [see him] lay down in the first or second round.

“I hope he’s fit and ready for a good fight because I am.”

GGG can knockout Canelo- Rudi Garcia

Robert Garcia has said that he believes that Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0- 1, 33) could knockout Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez when the two face off against each other in their rematch on May 5th.

However Garcia is backing the 27-year- old Canelo to go on and win this time around as he feels that the Mexican is younger, faster and would have learned from the first fight.

During the first fight which ended in a draw, Canelo struggled to keep up with the pace that Golovkin set and the judges also appeared to give the Golden Boy promotions star a number of breaks when it came to scoring rounds that should have gone in Golovkin’s way.

Judge Adelaide Byrd only gave Golovkin two rounds in the entire fight despite the fact that Canelo looked ragged and exhausted during the middle rounds.

“I think Canelo is young. He’s learned a lot from the first fight ,” Robert Garcia said to K.O. Artist sports in predicting a win for Alvarez over GGG.

“I think Canelo wins, but Abel Sanchez is a good trainer. Abel Sanchez is going to come up with a good game plan, and he [Golovkin] might show us something we don’t expect. But me and my pick is Canelo. He’s younger, and he learned a lot from the first fight. He’s going to be confident, so I pick Canelo,” Garcia said.

Eubank Jr confident he will beat Groves

Chris Eubank Jr is confident that he will not require the full 12-rounds in order to defeat George Groves.

The pair will face off on the Febuary 17 at the MEN Arena with Groves defending his WBA Super title and Eubank Jr putting his IBO belt on the line in the super-middleweight match.

In addition to their titles being on the line, a place in the World Boxing Super Series is also up for grabs and Eubank Jr is confident that he will end up winning.

“Our fighting styles are too offensive and he doesn’t hold the shot well; if you catch him clean he’s going to go. So I believe I will stop him before the 12th round – 100 per cent.”

Stamford Bridge which is the home ground of Grove’s favourite football team Chelsea was initially supposed to be the venue of the bout but it was eventually moved to Manchester.

McGregor/ Mayweather re-match must be in the Octagon- Dana White

If Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have a rematch, it will be in the UFC Octagon. Those are the words of UFC president Dana White.

The two athletes had their first showdown last August as McGregor swapped the Octagon to make his professional boxing debut.

The Irishman started the early rounds well but Mayweather ended up outclassing him and eventually won during the 10th round through TKO.

Mayweather recently posted videos on social media which have suggested that he is considering stepping into the Octagon.

It remains to be seen if this was just for publicity or if he is seriously considering the possibility of a rematch against McGregor.

White said: “Floyd said leading up to the fight with Conor that he would do both. So we’ll see what happens,” White said on “UFC Tonight.” “Obviously, the only way making that fight again makes any sense is if he comes into the Octagon.

“We went over and boxed him, the UFC and Conor McGregor, and now it’s time for him to reciprocate and come and fight in the Octagon.”

Model who romped with Amir Khan sentenced to jail

A glamour model who is said to have had sex with British boxer Amir Khan has been sentenced to ail after she stashed a handgun and live ammunition in a wardrobe in her home.

Sarah Hunter will now serve a two-year prison sentence. She hid the self-loading pistol in her home on behalf of her criminal ex-boyfriend who has been convicted.

Hunter was living in a two-bedroom, two-storey house in Dagenham, Essex along with her 10-year- old daughter.

When arrested, Hunter denied that she knew about the firearm which was in working order and banned in the UK due to its barrel length and she added that she had “a lot of enemies”.

However after going on trial at Maidstone Crown Court in Kent, the 33-year- old admitted her guilt after the jury were informed about a number of Watsapp message exchanges between her and ex-boyfriend Spencer Tapper.

The prosecution claimed that this was clear evidence of her knowledge of guns and cartridges.
